Colourful ground beetle
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Odacantha melanura (Carabidae, Harpalinae, Odacanthini). Size 7mm.
I think it's the most exotic-looking ground beetle in our region. It is associated with humid habitats and aquatic vegetation, especially reeds (Phragmites australis). Some 20 years ago I used to find lots of these in our town park. Now, while so-called civilisation keeps spreading, this nice beetle is becoming more and more scarce. |

Hi Dmitry,
fascinating high quality macro of this unusually colourful and slender Carabus, cannot remember to have seen anything like that one before.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
Hola Dmitry,
Excelente toma de gran definición, con luz y detalles muy buenos. Saludos
Hello Dmitry!
What a interesting picture! Odacantha melanura (sometimes known also as Colliuris melanura) is also rare in Poland (VU category in the Polish Red Data List). I swa this species only one time in nature in my life, even if in some region it is more common than in C Poland :)
Bravo for another interesting presentation!
Best greetings,
Radomir
PS. Nice that you added beetle size in note ;>

Dear Dmitry,
you did an excellent job here. This beetle was really worth the effort, I have never seen anything like it. All the details, the good lighting, no background interference. Congratulations!
Greetings to you,
Dietrich
