Pennisetia hylaeiformis (Sesiidae, Tinthiinae, Pennisetiini)
The subfamily Tinthiinae can be easily distinguished from the majority of European Sesiidae species (i.e., Sesiinae) by filiform or setiform antennae without scale-pencil. This genus with a single species in Europe, unlike the other genus in the subfamily (Tinthia), has forewings with transparent areas.
I found this one at the edge of a pine forest sitting on a rowan tree leaf, with a lot of raspberry, its host plant, around (larvae are endophagous, developing in stems). |
