Friends,
Special Thanks to Rosettus for correcting this ID.
Black-crowned Night Heron
I shot this bird near to my cousin's apartment. He stays in the Bedok Reservoir view and there is a big lake Bedok Reservoir. I saw this bird and it was unmoved for quite sometime and in deep thinking. I had to change the camera angle to take full view of the bird.
Description
top
Medium-sized, stocky heron.
Short neck and thick black bill.
Black cap and back.
Wings gray.
Underparts white.
Size: 58-66 cm (23-26 in)
Wingspan: 115-118 cm (45-46 in)
Weight: 727-1014 g (25.66-35.79 ounces).
Other Names
Bihoreau à couronne noire (French)
Yaboa real, Guanaba, Guaco (Spanish)
Cool Facts
Young Black-crowned Night-Herons often disgorge their stomach contents when disturbed. This habit makes it easy to study its diet.
The Black-crowned Night-Heron may nest in the same tree with ibises or other herons.
Adult Black-crowned Night-Herons apparently do not distinguish between their own young and those from other nests, and will brood chicks not their own.

Juvenile: Eyes yellowish to amber, legs dull greyish. Yellow base to bill. Brown head, neck, chest and belly streaked with buff and white. Wings and back darker brown with large white spots at the tips of the feathers; spots especially large on the greater secondary coverts. Immature: Acquires full adult plumage in its third year. First year birds are similar to juvenile, but have less extensive spotting on upperwings and a dark cap. Second year birds resemble the adult, but have a brown neck and wings contrasting with darker brown cap and back.

Hello Narayanan,
I dont know much about this species, but I know your capture great with all fetures. Especially red eyes looks superb.
Nycticorax nycticorax - Night Heron very similar yours with red eye iris, bluish and black plumage and general appearance. You already noted Ardea herodias is from American herons. Its habitus similar to Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), common here and its neck more long. night heron has more shorter neck.
Thanks for sharing, well done friend
Ahmet
Unusual angle, but quite a good shot.
Not so sure about the composition, but plenty of detail and natural colour.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Ganesh,
I love this capture of the Black-crowned Heron. An unusual angle that makes him look like he is surfing on that rock. The shades of blue and the orange eye are beautiful. Wonderful details from head to toe. A very different and excellent composition.
