Fantastic portrait of this Shoebill. They are hard to find in the African wilderness. This photo is very sharp with a good composition and natural colours. Good POV and DOF. Have a good trip to Papua New Guinea.

What an aptly named bird, James! The bill really looks like a shoe.

Hi James,
Pretty impressive shot showing the main attribute well of this not to often seen bird. I went through my old images an found a few shots of these birds, I believe I photographed them at a wildlife park in California a little bit off from their home environment but none the less quite an impressive bird to view. I watched it as it displayed its hunting techniques and what a sight that was, Standing very motionless then 'Sploosh!' this birds head hit the water so fast and in a split second was back to its normal pose, but this time with excess water draining from it's bill straining the water before it swallowed its catch. TFS :)

Hi James,
I never visited the bird park in the three months I lived in Singapore, but I did visit the night safari. I do hope you enjoyed this great city.
You captured this odd looking but beautiful bird perfectly. The details in the feathers are wonderful and the catchlight in the eye brings it perfectly alive. I really like the affectioned expression.
