Homoptera
Family: Cicadidae
Scientific name: Oncotympana fuscata(Distant)
A male
Length: 33-36 mm
Wingspan: 55-65 mm.

I was lucky to capture the scene sucking juice from tree. Korean cicada(Oncotympana fuscata)lives to suck juice from tree roots for 2~3 years underground, as a larva. When summer comes, they come above ground and emerge. After they changed into adults, lay eggs, and after a few weeks(thirty to forty days), they die.

Male cicadas produce sounds with the sound production organs inside the abdomen to attract females of the same species. The sounds sometimes attract males of the same species or warn to other males nearby, depending on species.

Thanks for looking. :-)

Hi Kevin,
This Korean cicada has fresh green colors, not like spanish ones that are "dried" colors. Excellent deatils, pov and composition.

Hello Kevin,
this is an excellent close-up of the cicada with great sharpness and depth of field. Colours, details and light are superb. Appropriate non-disturbing background. Without the braod black frame the entire insect could have been shown - you cut the wing-tips.
Best wishes, Peter

Very nice sharp detail and great POV well captured best rgds Necip.

Hello Kevin,
Magnifique prise de vue, il y a une belle luminosité et une riche coloration.

Dear Kevin,
this is extraordinary. Cicadas are shy and I have never seen them suck although they spray you with a liquid when leaving. And you caught it in the act, with that wonderful light and the focus all over the animal. Great! And thanks for the commentary.
Cheers, Dietrich

Hi Kevin

Another excellent macro from you!
This is indeed a very interesting adn beautiful species.
I really like the sharpness of the details here and the DOF - with every aspect of the insect in full focus.
Also the colors are lovely, the POV is great and the framing very nice.
The only nit here is the clipping of the wings...that would have made an impecable composition...but it's very nice this way too ;)

Bravo and TFS

Hi Kevin.
You have shared amazing close-up macro shot. Extremely well detailed, sharp, perfect illuminated and composed picture. DOF is selected nicely. The whole insect is in focus and BG is excellent shadowed, colourful and blurred. BRAVo. Perfect done.

Hi Kevin,
Nice shot of this cicada. Great sharpness, neat bluury BG. It seems that light intensity was quite high at time picture was captured.
Nicely cropped, well composed picture, nice frame.

And again fantastic macro with very good details and beautiful colours! The only thing I do not like in this photo is the fact that the wings are cutted here...
