Scientific name: Sympetrum infuscatum (Selys, 1883)
A female
Length: 45~48 mm
Distribution: South East Asia

In hot, sunny weather it is important that dragonflies don’t overheat. Cooling strategies include becoming less active, moving into shade and changing their body position. The obelisk position orients the dragonfly’s abdomen directly at the sun, thereby reducing the surface area exposed to solar heating. Some dragonflies also point their wings forward and down in order to reduce exposure to sunlight and, perhaps, to reflect light and heat away from their bodies.

Hello Kevin, A beautifull shot , good compositie colours pov details light bg and framing ,good job ,Greetings Teunie .

An oustanding picture of this dragonfly with prominent markings on the wingtips, Kevin. Only the minute and subtle differences establish the separate ID of this insect which could easily be mistaken for another species.
Your note about the behavior of dragonflies vis-a-vis their instincts for self-preservation is very educative and informative.
Thanks.

Preciosa composición. Una nitidez fabulosa así como el color. Una postura complicada, acrobática diría yo.
Muy buenos detalles.
Saludos Kevin.

Hello Kevin,
I think this is the first time I see this species with dark tips on the wings! Very interesting and even though the wings are not quite in focus they show up nicely. Very sharp focus on the head and body and I like the colours of the background and the composition very much.
TFS and regards, Ulla
