This is another of he shots from my day in the country side two months ago. This is before the birds have fledged but it shows a couple of what I think are very interesting details. The chicks are either playing or perhaps practicing some sort of behavior that will serve them later on, but it really seemed they were playing. Also you can see the upper beak is not yellow yet, part of their camoflage while still trapped in the nest. As they mature they will change their coloring but that will take nearly a year, their bills will become completely yellow but they continue to return to the nest and act as a familly unit (it seems).
With a break in the weather I am going to visit the colonial area and see how they are doing two months later. More tomorrow hopefully. |
