[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
* Nannophya pygmaea Ramber,1842
(= Tiny dragonfly, Northern Pygmyfly, Scarlet Dwarf)

* Total length: 14 ~ 17 mm (Larva: 7 ~ 9 mm)

* Wingspan : only 20 mm

* Range: from Southeast Asia to China, Korea and Japan

TN friends, I'm posting the photo of the smallest dragonfly in the world. Their length is only around 15mm and live in shallow marsh, swamp and bog. In South Korea, they are found very rarely and protected by law in present time, so we can't catch them, even larva. When I met them first time, I was very happy and impressed deeply because it's very rare species in my country and the first meeting with them is so amazing to me. :-)
While I was shooting them, It's observed the scene that robberflies were hunting them frequently. I was very upset and angry at that time, and I made the robberflies fly away by using some fallen tree branch. :D)
Anyway, it was very wonderful opportunity to meet them for me and photographed them for a long time. :-)

This little dragonfly has a pure and deep red colour on body and was taken on a cloudy day, so maybe the saturation is a bit strong. It's also cropped and resized, levels, USM and NR in photoshop.

In my opinion, you are the last word so far as the nature photography on dragonflies is concerned, Kevin. It is just perfect -- both artistically and rationally.
For instance, the head and especially the double-toned eyes of this cute little insect give the best possible impression of its unique physical appearance. Other than that, the full image is like a beautiful haiku poem.
It is just 5.30 in the morning in India while I look at your image and record my reaction.
What a great beginning to a day, and I thank you for it, Kevin!

Hello Kevin,
This portrayal of the World's smallest dragonfly is a great contribution to TN! Even if this shot is over three years old it was worth taking from your archives to show us. The POV shows the front part of this little one very sharply and well and the composition is excellent.
