[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I started my 4 1/2 year journey in Asia in Sri Lanka. One of the most amazing places I ever went was the Elephant Orphange, not too far from Kandy. Baby elephants that are rescued from the jungle, as orphans come to live, unfettered in this reserve. Some elephants are trained for work, but most are free. Wild elephants often demolish villages or kill people. Two drunks walking on the road through the jungle, were killed one night, near Kandy. When I got here, the herd of elephants were in a grassy area, just wandering. I got closer and closer with my camera. Suddenly they started running towards me full speed. I panicked!!! I ran. When they got to me, they formed a single line, it was the time of day to cross the main road, and go to this river, to bathe. Local tourists went right up to them, unafraid. I fell in love with elephants on this day. They always greet each other as they pass. They smile, they enjoy each other's company!

This is a great shot of the whole group. Are there any adult elephants for the young to use as role models etc?

What a wonderful experience and note. Thanks for sharing it. I can see why you panicked, but am glad all was well. I'm glad you still had the presence of mind to get some good shots.

Evelynn : )

I am soooo jealous! I'd rate this a hundred if I could. This is fantastic, it shows the kindred spirits these wonderful creatures have. By the way, did you know that if they run across the bones of an elephant, they can tell if it is one of their own and they have sort of a funeral for it? Each elephant touches the bones and then passes it on to the next one. I saw it last week on National Geographic (what a dream job!)

I love the greetings, the interaction, and the overall composition. This is one terrific photo and I hope you have it hanging on your wall!

Hello Gloria,
They are indeed amazing animals!
The way they interact shows they are social animals with a well developed group behaviour...
Nice to frame the flock!
