PREDATOR Vs. PREY IV

PREDATOR:
A nymph of Giant Indian Mantis. This is a common looking Mantis, it's colour varies from greens, browns and sometimes even an unusual silvery green! When adult, this species can measures roughly 100mm in size (dependent on the sex). Again, very similar to the Giant Asian and Giant Malaysian Mantis. It is swift and well camouflaged. It finished the butterfly withing 2 minutes.

PREY:
The Common Mime (Papilio (Chilasa) clytia) is a Swallowtail butterfly found in South and South-east Asia. The butterfly belongs to the Chilasa group or the Black-bodied Swallowtails. It serves an excellent example of a Batesian mimic among the Indian butterflies.
The Common Mime has two mimetic forms in both sexes. The nominate form C. clytia form clytia mimics the Common Indian Crow (Euploea core) while the form dissimilis mimics the Blue Tiger (Tirumala limniace).

The flight of the Mime also resembles that of the model, fluttering, neither weak nor strong, sometimes staying close to the ground and at other times flying strongly up into the treetops. It mud-puddles on stream banks in summer. Known to bask and usually sits with the wings spread wide open while feeding on nectar from flowers.
It is a very fast butterfly but failed in the competition of survival of the fittest.

Actually this activity was happening high up in the branch. Pretty unreachable. I ran to the house and brought a chair and stood up and clicked away. I still have a doubt in this composition so I am also posting another view in WS. Hope you will like. Thanks a lot for viewing.

What an amazing picture. I can imagine that it is difficult for the butterfly to see the mantis. Excellent composition and sharpness. Splendid natural colours. Excellent exposure too.

This poor little butterfly must have taken the Mantis for the leaves of the tree.
The Predator seems just one with them for effective camouflage and has succeeded in duping its prey.

Hello Haraprasan,
you show a dramatic scene and the great depth of field presents all important very well
and with high sharpness.
The butterfly is not a Danaidae but the mimiking swallowtail Chilasa clytia (family: Papilionidae)
which is clearly recognized by the wing and body colour pattern.
