View of sunset from above through the widow of a airplane. These mid-level altocumulus clouds (typically appear between 6,500 to 20,000 feet - 2,000 to 6,000 meters) reminded me of a caldera with a lava pool.

Altocumulus clouds usually form by convection in an unstable layer aloft. The presence of altocumulus clouds on a warm and humid summer morning is commonly followed by thunderstorms later in the day.


Looks like, I left stormy skies behind.

Fantastic picture, Robin! I would say, close to perfection. What i like is the composition in colours and the structure of the clouds. You can feel the threatening, you did survive this weather i hope????

Stunning image! I've never seen a sunset from above the clouds before. I photograph sunsets all the time from ground level, it's nice to see one from a new perspective. Thanks for sharing!
