These monkeys are native to Afghanistan, India, Thailand and Southern China. Rhesus monkeys are brown or grey in color and have pink faces which are typically bereft of fur. This species is one of the best known monkey species and is commonly used as a primate model in neuroscience and other experiments. These were the type of monkeys that were the first monkey astronauts at NASA.

While approaching what appeared to be a house on top of Hampi's largest peak, I could hear a family waking up. It turned out to be a family of monkeys living in a temple complex. This was one of them sitting on the edge of the temple roof. I'd say the drop below him is about 200 meters, but he doesn't seem concerned.
