[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot was taken from Paradise Cove Beach, on the Western end of Grand Bahama Island. The reef just off shore is called Deadmans Reef, and is one of the best snorkling areas on this Island. Last year this island took two direct hits from hurricanes. The results are still very evident everywhere you go. During a hurricane, the saltwater picked up by the high winds is blasted onto the island vegetation. This burns much of the vegetation and kills it. The reef itself sustained alot of damage, but appears to be slowly recovering. Shot at low tide.

I though this made an interesting composition to shoot. I also realize the horizion is pretty centered, but I feel it still works. The sunlight was directly overhead and very harsh, but I could not control that. Post processing in levels and curves brought back the color and detail, A slight boost in hue and saturation, and some unsharp mask.

Scott, great title, great photo.

I enjoy composition, sharpness, lighting and dof (f/16 really worked well here).

Exposure is perfect too.

A pleasure to check. It's also nice to see there is not overexposure upon the shiny clouds.

What a wild capture - the devastation of hurricanes is very evident here. My friends in Pensacola Florida have still not moved back into their home since Ivan in October!

Nice post, Scott!

Nice shot Scott,
Well composed, good colours and sharpness. NIce POV. The centred horizon works well with the twisted tree.
Thanks for posting, have a good weekend.

Hello Scott, You've handled the harsh light very well. This is a great example of what hurricane winds can do..Well done!

Scott,
Nice shot! I like the deatil you was able to capture in the bright light! The greens in the water, the tide and the rocks in the background. The picture is vibrant. looking at the short shadow of the tree, I would guess it was taken around noon. The low tide shot is a good idea as to show the vegetation on the shore. I also think this centered shot works! Very crisp shot, once again, a wonderful post!

Hi Scott, very nice shot, good title, I like the composition, good lighting and details. Thank you for sharing. :)

Hi Scott

Nice clear shot. The light looks a it harsh, but you have managed it very well. It would have been easy for the sand to be OE. Well done. The tree itself is a sorry sight. One can only imagine what it must have looked like. Good sharp details and nice POV. Good work. Thanks.

Hi Scott, quite artistic I think. What a tortured tree, it has had a hard life growing up and then was killed on in the hurricane. Tough! Your pp work has had good results because I think this looks good. Well done.
Did you enjoy yourself there?

Lovely, artistic shot of this sad tree. The stark grey branches stand out well against the bright sand. I love the puffy clouds in the sky and the low tide shot. Well done, I hope you had a good time there, it looks like a lovely place.

Hello Scott, good picture. I like the twisted trunk of this tree and the stripped tree is well explained by your note, hard to image the forces involved.

The twisted bit of the tree is a point of interest here and I think you could have improved this with a lower POV to get the twist to contrast with the blue sky. Also, the lighting was tough as it looks close to midday - the light would be better in earlier or later to light the subject from the side rather than from above.

Nice work.

Hi Scott, I do not have the time to write a decent comment. I give to you the well deserved smiley. Very well done under this light condition.

Thank you for sharing pictures and notes and for the enjoyment which they give to me.

Have a wonderfull weekend!
