Spider Monkey

Scientific name: Ateles geoffroyi
Order: Primates
Family: Cebidae (new world monkeys)
Subfamily: Atelinae
Genus: Ateles
Species: Geoffroyi (Black Handed Spider Monkey)
Subspecies: geoffroyi (Geoffroy's Spider Monkey)

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
New World The Western hemisphere; specifically the continents of North and South America.monkeys like the spider monkey are more primitive than old world monkeys. Their brains are less complex, their thumbs are not opposable and their nostrils are further apart. They have slender bodies and limbs with long narrow hands.

The black-handed spider monkey has a light to medium
brown body and darker limbs with the hands and feet usually black in color. The tail is sometimes longer than the body. When the animal is on the lookout, it stands or walks on two feet, using the tail to hold on to a support. In the wild, the Spider monkey rarely comes down to the jungle floor.

Spider monkeys live in evergreen rainforests, semi deciduous and mangrove forests, almost never coming to the ground. In these forests they live mostly in the upper canopy, preferring undisturbed high forest. They will be found in other forest types if habitat is limited, hunting pressure light and other primate competitors are not present. They are more flexible than their South American primate cousins in habitat adaptation...

Nicely presented Ralf
I'm going to Belize in December, so your periodic shots from your trip there are always keenly viewed.
Great composition and I like the OOF background that's still in focus enough to get an idea of the jungle.

Excellent clarity of this pretty monkey. Nice framing there too.
Best wishes,

Excellent composition. I love the way the tail stretches into the frame. Also, nice details, good contrast, and best of all, he is in his own environment. Lovely capture.

Hello Ralf,

This picture looks like a painting!!! The semi-blurred bg is wondeful against the sharp monkey! Great position of the monkey bringing emotions to us! You also did a splendid composition by keeping that POV!

Great job and TFS!

Michel
