[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Though my travels in Central America I found the Roadside Hawk (Buteo magnirostris) to be the most common raptor I encountered. Interestingly, it really is commonly found along roadsides, I wonder what it did before Europeans came along and created the roadside environment?

The Roadside Hawk is common throughout its range; from Mexico through Central America to most of South America east of the Andes cordillera. It is found from the northern Caribbean coast of South America south to the north-eastern parts of Argentina.

The Roadside Hawk's diet consists mainly of insects, reptiles, small mammals and birds.

Hello Chris,
A superb capture of this common C. American raptor that raises an interesting question. I guess wire-perching predator birds are attacted to the way roads create warming-up areas for insects and reptiles, not to mention those that are run over. Before roads came along flat rock surfaces and warm open areas with suitable perching places must have been used and maybe these opportunist species were less common.
Anyway its a great shot of this Roadside Hawk with fine tecnical qualities and colours and TFS!
All the best,
Ivan

Hi Chris,
Long time no see!
What a great expression on that hawk's face.
I love the way the sunlight is falling on him.
Very sharp... and I don't mean just his talons.
TFS : )
