I found this guy in the palm tree next to my cabin in Punta Uva while birding from the veranda. It's comical pose gave rise to the possible title, "Who's There?" Hope you you enjoy it.

The Palm Tanager, Thraupis palmarum, is a medium-sized passerine bird. This tanager is a resident breeder from Nicaragua south to Bolivia, Paraguay and southern Brazil. It also breeds on Trinidad and, since 1962, on Tobago. In Trinidad and Tobago, it is known by colloquial names such as the 'Palmiste' and the 'Green Jean'.

It occurs in semi-open areas including cultivation and gardens. The bulky cup nest is built in a tree, usually a palm, or under the eaves of a house, and the female incubates three, sometimes two, brown-blotched cream eggs for 14 days, with another 17 days to fledging.

Adult Palm Tanagers are 19 cm long and weigh 36g. Sexes are similar, although females may be somewhat paler.

Palm Tanagers are social, restless but unwary birds which eat a wide variety of small fruit. They also regularly take some nectar and insects, including caterpillars. The song is fast and squeaky.

Fantástica imagen con unos preciosos colores.
Presentación muy buena. Me gusta como el pajarillo rompe la simetría de las hojas de la palmera, asomándose curioso..
Un bonito trabajo.
Saludos, JL.

Hi Richard, what a nice shot, the bird seems to come out from behind a curtain, like getting on stage. I like the pattern of the leaves with the bird opening it and the background that is out of focus. TFS!

Hello Richard,
How could I have missed this one?
This is cute, sharp, well composed and yet you have caught this Palm Tanager from a very unusual POV peeping through the palm leaves.
Great shot!
Well done and thanks,

Hey Richard, great shot and very nice pose of the bird in its natural environment. Great light, exposure and sharpness. Thanks !

Mario

Hi Richard,

Wonderful photo - two elements make this work - the composition (the almost abstract patterns of the foliage) and the timing of the bird peering through and down. If only that little leaf sticking down from the top left hadn't been there - but some things are out of photographers' control!! Lovely work. TFS, Doug

You've captured very nice moment ot the scene, with excellent details and focusing.
Also, I can see very nice overall colouration here, with nice composition & POV.
Well presented and TFS,

Sorry I will be back later.

Hi Richard,
The cute pose and interesting centered composition makes this one great! Very good use of the ambient light, nice colors and detail.
Well done.
Howard

This is lovely Richard. I really like all the shades of green including your little bird. The complementary red angled line makes for a dramatic and effective composition. The leaf patterns are wonderful and as is the out of focus background peaking through.

Very nice. TFS
