It will probably not surprise you, but I want to celebrate my 300 th post with a bird.
For me this is a very special bird, because it's a member of the Trogon family: the slaty tailed Trogon! Actually I wanted to spot the quetzal but that's not very easy. Wit this familymemeber of the quetzal I'm very pleased. I took this photo in National Park Tortuguero. This species has the typical upright stance of the trogons, which shows off its bright red belly and uniform dark grey tail. The male has a rich green on the back and an orange red bill. The female is greyer and only the lower mandibleof the bill is reddish. This species favours the canopy and higher levels of wet lowland forests but also forages in clearings. It inhabits the humid areas of the foothills of the Caribbean slope and the southern Pacific slope. Superficially simular to Lattice-tailed Trogon but which has a yellow bill and a barred tail.

Hoi Zeno,
Van harte met je 300st foto. Ondanks dat we elkaars pad niet vaak gekruist hebben, weet ik wel dat je erg veel prachtige foto's aan ons mij hebt laten zien. Dit is zeker ook een pracht foto, met erg mooi zacht licht en super detail. De compositie met de dikke tak is erg mooi en geeft een mooie verhouding weer met de vogel. De scherpte diepte is perfect. De kleine glinstering in het oog is prachtig.

Nice Trogon image and I agree a special bird. I like how they sit on an open branch to show their bright colors. Good Pov, composition, and pleasing BG. The light is good but I would like to see more of the tail feather detail.

Gefeliciteerd met de 300st foto,inderdaad een kleurige vogel met een mooie rustige achtergrond,indrdaad de quetzal is een mooilijk te spotten,ik heb hem eens hoog in de toppen van de bomen mogen aanschouwen (ook in costa rica en als ik me goed herriner was dit in monteverde),hoop nog vele fotos van je te mogen bewonderen in de toekomst,groetjes
