Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula
Aphonopelma seemani

Considered to be one of the most beautiful species of Tarantula.

From head to abdomen, the Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula is a beautiful specimen. It comes in two distinct coloring schemes, one found mostly in Costa Rica and the other found in parts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The Costa Rican variety is mostly black with orange stripes running down it's legs, the abdomen sporting a light dusting of orange. The underbelly will be a light orange as well. The Nicaraguan variety will be mostly brown with tan lines running down the legs, with the same orange color shown on the abdomen and underbelly.

The Costa Rican Zebra Tarantula lives in deep, humid rainforests of Costa Rica, where it thrives in deeply dug burrows far beneath the canopy of the jungle. They are also known as Zebra Tarantula, Stripe Knee Tarantula, and Stripe Kneed Tarantula. This spider can be found mostly in Costa Rica, although it has been found in different color schemes in both Nicaragua and parts of Guatemala.

Once again I chose the dorsal view to photograph this species, as it shows its beautiful markings at best.

Hello Paul,
Great shot of this impressive species of Tarantula. The shot has the quality of a quality pastel drawing done by a skilled graphic artist, perhaps due to the lighting and colours.
Nice to see!
TFS and best wishes,
Ivan

Wow, Paul. That is an incredible shot. : )
Excellent POV of this arachnid beauty with the black and pink motif.
The details on this hirsute specimen are a bit too sharp for my comfort. : P
How big was this...tarantula?
Is it poisonous?
TFS. : )

Hello Paul,
I'll tell like you: I think that I have never seen such beautiful specie. Those patterns on its body are superb and you caught it with excellent details, wonderful and very natural exposure and compo.

I had this chance to hold a Tarantula in my hand recently and it was a great experience. It wasn't this specie though but the black plain one... Well done and TFS,
Claudine
