Nice butterfly capture, but this seems a bit over exposed. Perhaps an adjustment in iso to 200, kick up the aperture and slowing down the shutter speed, would have netted what you were looking for. Hand held is tough when shooting butterflys, I know, but his body is a bit blurred. Thank you for sharing this

After looking at this butterfly picture, I now fully grasp the significance of your critique of my post today, Peter. Yes, the noise filter would obliterate those fine ridges and markings on the wings, flattening everything into an undistinguished plane.
Very good profile view of this attractive specimen from Costa Rica.

Hello Peter,
Nice capture of the beautiful Heliconius in a great pose. I like the sharp focus on the eye and the rolled-up proboscis. Perhaps the colour contrasts are a bit sharp.

Hallo Peter,
dieser hübsche zarte Falter ist in perfekter Pose festgehalten, und das klare, natürliche Licht im Halbdunkel macht die leichte Bewegungsunschärfe der langen Belichtungszeit wett. Auch ich verzichte bei Faltern wann immer möglich auf den Einsatz von Blitz. Das Ergebnis ist natürlicher, und dem Falter erspart es verschreckende Irritation.
Danke auch für die sehr gute Dokumentation.

Hi Peter,
IMMO, slowing down the shutter speed even further would have induced camera shake and / or necessitaed the use of a tripod. Balancing the exposure on a very dark subject with that on a lighter BG is never easy in macros. I believe [again IMMO] that you took the right option in correctly exposing the subject. This butterfly looks slender and delicate. Very nice composition and exposure. The color saturation is great. Nice green color background which made the butterfly stand out. A pleasant picture and well appreciated.

top makro und auch der Bildaufbau ist sehr gelungen. Prima Schaerfe die Fluegelfiligrane kommen sehr Geltung. Klasse Farben und der Schaerfeverlauf ist klasse.

Hi Peter,
I like the details on the eye that you have managed to capture on this fella. The details on the lower wings is also amazing. I like the position too.

As you have mentioned wings at the upper side could have been sharper if you had used a stand......... to eliminate shake resultant from using a smaller aperture, but its not really a nit

Nice and detailed shot of this black beauty, Only problem is too light Bg but not too much, you should have blured a bit and lover part of the leaf to make it perfect,
