[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a two-times handheld picture:
The camera handheld by me and
the butterfly handheld by my daughter or son (?).

The species shown
- Siproeta epaphus
- family: Nymphalidae
obviously likes to take up salty fluid from the skin.
This behaviour can also be observed with European butterflies, particularly some Lycaenidae and also Erebia-species like it and they are hardly to disturb.

S. epaphus occurs in Central America and northern South America. It is not so common in Costa Rica but we had the opportunity to observe it several times in the mountain regions of Costa Rica where it occurs from 1200 up to 3000m. You can also find it in 'Butterfly Houses', as I have learned at TN.

Wing span: about 70 mm.

- natural bright sun-light
- ISO 200
- handheld as indicated before

Hi Peter

The double handheld works terrific here! Hahaha!!!
This is a really beautiful photo of this impressive butterfly and the pose is impeccable.
The exposure - although quite difficult - was well managed and the colors and details came out right!
I don't know how old or big your children are, but that butterfly looks pretty big in comparison with the hand :)

Bravo and TFS

Hello Peter,
Very nice capture.I liked vivid colors,POV,framing and composition a lot.TFS

Hallo Peter,
Peter

Amazing shot Peter.
Great shot, great sharpness.
Beautiful butterfly
