| My concluding series on my climb of Volcan Pacaya begins with the first of three photos of neighboring Volcan Agua taken from the slopes of Volcan Pacaya. The two neighbors are part of the Central American Arc of volcanoes along the subduction zone of the Cocos and Carribean Plates. Guatemala alone has over 30 such volcanoes, although most, including Volcan Agua, have not erupted in historic times. Obviously, from the previous photos in the series and the recent lava flow in the foreground, Volcan Pacaya definitely fits in the active category. |

Hi Lowell,
Thanks for the memories of Guatemala. A beautiful country that remains in my heart. I was in Guatemala for one month. Youth with a Mission, back in 87.
Excellent shot and well done on the composition.

Hello Lowell
Impressive picture with that high volcan in shadow. Beautiful color and very nice composition. I like it very much.
Bravo
Best wishes

Amazing shot, Lowell. My curiosity is peaked, however, by the incredible cloud formations working their way around the volcanic cone below. I'm not familiar with your camera, but if I were shooting my Canon, I would simply have turned toward the sun a bit (to the left?), metered the shot with the increased light, and then swung back over and snapped this one off. It would have darkened the foreground a bit and quite probably the cone as well, but brought the clouds and sky to life. I will try to demonstrate what I mean and post as a workshop - no guarantees, but I'll try. Thank you for sharing this picture; I spent a month in Guatemala in the early 90s, and this does bring back the memories. Thank you. -Kelly
