This is the magnificent Frigatebird, popularly known as the "Man-o"War Bird". The frigatebird is a familiar sight along the coasts of Trinidad and Tobago, gliding high above the sea or over the ridges of the Northern Range. In flight it forms a distinctive slihouette in the shape of a shallow W, its long wings spread over 2 metre (7 foot) wingspan. The long tail can occasionally be seen to be divided into a deep fork. The adult male is black all over, the female is black with a white breast, and the head and most of the underparts of the immature are white.
The frigatebird breeds on remote, undisturbed islands such as St Giles off northeast Tobago. It nests in low trees and lays one white egg. Both parents attend the nest, where the male often attracts his mate's attention by inflating his throat patch into a huge, scarlet "balloon". The diet is usually fish, but frigatebirds rarely fish for themselves, preferring to attack smaller seabirds, forcing them to disgorge their most recent meals, which the pirate then takes.
It costed me quite a while to take a decent photo of this magnificent bird. This bird came very close to the beach and was attacking gulls. The contrast with the sky is great and the dark brown wings also make a big contrast with the white breast. So it was hard to get sharp details in the wings. Nevertheless I hope you like this "threatening" capture. |

Interesting, alternative crop - I really like that..
PS: The Exif-shutter speed of 30s is nonsense - it should read 0,0003125s!

Forse avrei tagliato un pò di cielo sotto. E' una bella foto ben fatta. Complimenti ciao gigicacco
hi zeno
dommage que les ailes soient coupées,mais c'est tellement dur en vol que les deux points sont merités.
