[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This well-known bird, also called the "Golden-eye Thrush" or the"Big eye Grive", is wide spreaded in Tobago. I shot this one in the garden of the Arnos Vale hotel. I guess it had just a drink somewhere because it looks a bit wet on the chest.
It habitats semi-open suburban areas with large trees, secondary forest and cultivated lands. It is less common at higher altitudes and not known at all in true rain forest. Mainly brown in colour, its lower underparts are pale grey, and its throat is streaked brown. Its most conspicuous feature is a large, bare, golden-yellow eye-ring, which gives it a strangestaring appearance. Like many thrushes, it sings musically but with less variety and power than most other Tobagan thrushes.
This species feeds on a variety of fruits, insects and worms, mostly taken from the ground, and it readily comes for scraps. It nests during the early rainy season, building a substantial nest of mud and plant material, which is situated in the fork of a tree. Usually three eggs are laid; they are blue with dark brown spots.
