[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I spent a lot of time on the beach looking for birds to photograph. I was very dissapointed that there were only seagulls. I could not believe the lack of other types of shore birds that are normally found on any beach. This may be due in part to last years two hurricanes that directly hit this island, but I could not confirm that.

Having been inspired by the many great shots of birds posted at this site, I started taking alot of bird shots. I found out that I need alot of practice. I posted this photograph because I like the composition.
I was able to hand hold this one at f22 for DOF. The image stabilazation worked very well to keep sharp detail. The sun was extremely bright at this point but I was able to keep most of the detail in the whites.

Post Processing was adjustments to levels, and curves to bring back some detail. A slight boost in hue and saturation to bring back the sky.

Alot of great seagull shots have been posted on this site, so I will not post any of my inflight shots. They are not good enough. But I have alot of them!

Nice shot with all the birds looking in the same direction.
Good title.
Nice focus.
Well composed
:)

Well captured Scott,
Excellent composition and nicely exposed. Good sharp detail and superb POV.
I do think that being in the Bahamas, you should have been relaxing on the beach sipping a cocktail, not photographing gulls!!
Thanks for posting

I really like the composition on this one too, Scott. Not only do I like the arrangement of the gulls' positions, but I also like the way each of them is a different shade of black and grey, creating an interesting visual pattern. Well done and TFS. : )

Yes, Scott, it is a good composition, the birds are nicely placed and they look like they are facing out to the water. And yes, the inflight shots aren't easy to get! I have MANY failures. Good photo, well done.
Now go have that cocktail, or two.

Nice bunch of birds Scott ;-) I like composition of this scene - they look like waiting for boat or something. Nice looking sky also. Pity about cut off tail.

Good capture Scott !
I really like it with these 3 watcher.

Scott, in my opinion, pov makes this photo. I do like it.

Maybe, I'd try to add some sharpness, but that's just an opinion.

Excellent composition showing the blue sky.

A very nice shot. Congratulations.

Hello Scott!
Wonderful scane.Large DOF,clear details, colors,POV and composition are excellent.
TFS....:-)

These black headed seagulls are very interesting, I've only ever seen ones with white heads. I love the POV in this photo and the grey blue color of the sky. The composition is lovely, very artistic, well done.

Great shot Scott! I love the POV and arrangement of the gulls. The composition is great and you did well with the exposure. My only nit is that the tail feathers have been cut off. Apart from that it's great.

Very nice capture Scott beautifull three shot, i like the colours & light Dof & pov are great. Thanks for your help about the dragonfly i'll make better tomorrow... :-)

Good evening,
Christian

I have many pictures of them robbing luckless beach goers of their food. I see little else at the beach in america. I think pollution, chemicals, hunters, kill the wonderful birds that use to be everywhere. I love sand pipers!

Hi Scott! I do not have the time to write a decent comment. I give to you the well deserved smiley.

" The future is not some place we are going, but one we are creating.
The paths are not to be found, but made.
And the activity of making them, changes both the maker and their destination. "

Thank you for sharing pictures and notes and for the enjoyment which they give to me.

Have a wonderfull day!

Most awesome job on the DOF, I'm envious. My camera only goes to 9 so I can never do this. Great poses (thanks to the gulls) and wonderful composition.

TFS!

Alli
