Hercules Beetle
(Dynastes hercules)

I would like to share with everybody on TrekNature one of the most impressive beetles and one of nature's strangest oddities I've ever encountered, an amazing insect that can reach a length of 8 inches and looks extrememly intimidating but is actually quite gentle when holding it. I came across this fellow(this is the male) while in Monte Verde Costa Rica, at the time he was trying to mount his female companion which I also got photos of. They are really incredible creatures and are a spectacular site to see them in person.

Fantastic photo of this insect!
I like the bright!
Very good on colours!
Excellent on details and DOF!
Very good POV!
5* and TFS!

Hello Paul,
Since I think in centimetres I had to check how cm 8 inches have. It seems it's about 20. I never know they can be so huge. I wish you had a picture of one on your hand.
Anyway, this shot is great technically and very nicely framed.
VERY WELL DONE!

Hi Paul
The mighty conqueror standing at the top of the world. Size by size this is the strongest animal in the world even out performing an elephant. If you were to close your hand on one of these you would be exposed to that strength as there is no way how you will be able to contain it. It will force your hand open with a 'smile' on that horny face.
I like this vertical composition and POV showing lovely natural colours and great details, The well removed OOF BG compliments the insect and the spot-on exposure shows excellent contrasts on its shiny black surface.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
