This is really a magnificent close-up of this beautiful Apollo. The sharp details are most impressive and the colours beautiful. I like that crispy look of the wings and the pose is perfect. Very well captured against the dark background too. It is amazingly hairy - maybe because of the high elevation.

C'est un cliché très spectaculaire, avec un très bon emploi du contre jour. La texture et la couleur des ailes sont parfaitement rendues, avec une précision des détails impressionnantes : on pourrait presque compter les écailles. Les couleurs de la fleur et le contraste de l'arrière plan composent une image magnifique, bravo.

Nebst der Schönheit des Bildes ist dieses posting auch sehr interessant, da Du uns die Unterschiede zwischen männlichen und weiblichen Parnassius-Faltern sehr gut zeigst. Hab herzlichen Dank für Deine Mühe.
Wenn ich Dein Bild anschaue, da wird mir klar, warum ich als Kind immer an einen "Verkehrsampeln-Schmetterling" dachte"! Ich meinte damals noch, dass er auch grüne Signale trug!

Yet another from the Apollo family and this is indeed another wonderful capture...I have to admit that i am quite attracted to its beautiful wings that again remind me of printed cream silk...so much like fabric...and in India we women have a special liking for such textures and colours...and i can only be amazed at the way nature creates creatures and mould human creativity to weave very similar kind of patterns to earn a living.
This is superb a composition, with lots of details, great colours and contrasts and best use of natural light.
Very well done.

Hi Peter

While it is true that I anticipate nothing less than exceptional on any given one of your postings it is also true that from time to time I am even more impressed and cannot help to express a loud "WOW" when I open the thumbnail. This was obviously one of those extra pleasurable moments.

So, here is the "WOW" for this one. A super image of this little hairy-fairy. What makes it even more impressive is the fact that this was photographed on the shady side of the butterfly yet it is amazing the degree of detail, lighting and visual oomph you got out of the subject. The composition is outstanding with the flower situated on the left and the butterfly filling the frame at an angle towards the right and almost dissecting the photo into two perfect halves. Great stuff and that is that.
