Hello Peter,
This one is brilliant. In this shot you have managed to display both the underside and upperside of the QOS fritillary with excellent lighting. First class shot of the flower head and BG too!
TFS this pep-up for tired eyes!

Cheers!

Splendid composition Peter with a nice point of view, capturing the butterfly in all their splendor.
The strait DOF generates an out of focus effect on the wing that allows to see the difference among its sides, but also a pleasant effect of depth in complicity with an excellent bottom.
The beauty of the flower competes directly with the insect in the protagonism of the scene with a strategic centered framing.
Cheers!

Guten Abend Peter,

Hi Peter,
Great sharpness, very fine details, and neat blurry BG.
Excellent shot.

This is a very nice capture, it as though the butterfly almost feels like heat is radiating from the picture itself. Excellent capture Peter. :)

Hello Peter,
it's not easy to get all parts well exposed in bright sun. Here, in this picture, you had to deal with a white flower and colourful butterfly. You managed really well!
Beside it is a beautiful species, the composition is also great showing detail from upper- and underparts.
Compliments, Jacob

Hi Peter, wonderful butterfly, beautiful colors, great sharpness, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Hi Peter

Yet another splendid post from you!
But first, i would like to remark that you are among the people that constantly write long and and excellent (from the scientifical point of view) notes, with good detailing on the photo technique and nice refrences for the biology.
Now coming back to the photo...it's wonderful again! :)
The details on this "queen" are super sharp and the colors are most charming. The lighting is also great, enhancing and saturating all those tones even more.
The DOF is simply perfect here - keeping the butterfly and the flower it is on is great focus and also blurring the BG very beautifully.
Great POV and composition as well.

Bravo, my friend and TFS

Guten Morgen Peter,
Anne

Hi Peter,
Another wonderful capture. Sharpness of the butterfly and the DOF are great and form a wonderful combination with the blurred background.
Light - especially through the wings is very nice.

Hi Peter.
Next your outstanding butterfly picture. I see, that it is indifferent for you, with what device to work. It is right sign of true skillfulness. Very nice POV and captured moment. First of all I mean the pose of the butterfly wings. You have shown all colorations of this amazing specimen. As always, colours of the picture is perfect at high range, also as well as the lighting (especially illumination of the white flower). Sharpness and details of the butterfly and flower cause admiration. Such words I can address to BG. In a word, great work and my best wishes.
Your Alexei.

Hi Peter!
I thought you had travelled in a time machine to grab this beauty on the 17th of July, 2007 :-)!
Be that as it may, this is a marvellous shot of this beautiful butterfly offering views of both sides of its richly coloured and textured wings.
A prize shot indeed that is perfect from every point of view.
Thanks a lot for sharing this beauty.

Hello Peter,
This is a wonderful picture. I like it a lot. This POV, colors, composition and details are really stunning. Even if you used the F4 aperture and that the wing in FG is a little off, it doesn't disturb me at all, and even, I think it creates a very nice effect. I like to see those details on its head. This is a very colorful post with excellent BG. Congratulations!

Hi Peter

Eish, what's wrong my friend? I am so used to always see these technically flawless photos from you and now you go and post this monstrosity. Did your cameras CCD pack up or was there mud on your lens? The butterfly is full of dirty black spots and it’s got these funny things that stick out of its head.

Ok, now breathe slowly. Give the blood some chance to flow out through your ‘sagittal sinus’ vein to relieve the pressure on your brain. Breathe again then read further, but only if you stopped swearing at me. If you are still swearing…breathe some more and chill-out.

Ha-ha-ha, I never had the opportunity to identify any nit on your photos at all. So, I just wanted a taste of it to see how it would feel if I had to give you a negative critique. On the flip side, I am sure you seldom (if ever) received any negative critique from anybody else, so I just wanted to give you the opportunity to experience how that might feel (chuckle).

Oh, how I wish I was a fly on the wall though. I thought I heard some buzzing in my head for quite a while after I posted this critique, but maybe that was only a cricket in my garden causing it.

No my friend, there is nothing wrong with this photo, but that you already knew. Didn’t you? The ‘Queen of Spain’ is exquisite and you presented it with such amazing quality. The exposure is great, the details are stunning, the colours are well saturated, the composition is great, and the POV is very interesting making the underside of the wing in front look like a stain-glass window.

Excellent work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Peter,

Can I just say having looked through your portfolio I am AMAZED at the quantity and quality of moth and butterfly photos you have. They are all fantastic but this one stood out for me as exceptional.

You have got a perfect shot here of a beautiful specimen. I love the saturated colours and clarity across the focused points. You have a great understanding of butterflies and this gives you the skill needed to photograph them well.

Great background and nice composition. You've done a grand job.

Regards
Simon
