[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Green Alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens), member of the Boraginaceae family, is a bristly, perennial plant growing to approximately 60cm to 90cm in height usually in damp or shaded places and often close to buildings.
The oval, pointed leaves are rough and covered with hairs. The lower leaves in the basal rosette have no stalks, but the upper ones on the stems have stalks.
The bright blue flowers appear from April to July and arise from the upper leaf axils in clusters with two small leaves behind them. The flowers are edible (to decorate salads, foods and drinks).
The Green Alkanet originated from France and the Iberian Peninsula and was brought to Britain for the red dye which can be extracted from its roots. Subsequently, the plant spread to the wild and is known to have naturalised throughout Europe and some coastal regions of North America.

I found a colony of this plant on a damp, between the railways of the tram and a little wood along the Royal domain of Laeken.

La Buglosse toujours verte (Pentaglottis sempervirens) est une plante vivace de 30 à 90 cm, hispide, rameuse, à grosse racine. On la retrouve dans les talus et lieux ombragés, souvent proches des habitations.
Ses feuilles sont ovales, acuminées, minces et rugueuses, sont couvertes de poils. Ses petites fleurs de 5-6 mm d’un bleu lumineux apparaissent d’avril à juillet.
Elle est originaire du Sud-Ouest de la France et de l’Espagne et s’est répandue à travers l’Europe et l’Amérique du Nord. Elle a été importée en Grande-Bretagne pour la teinture rouge que l’on extrayait de ses racines.

J'ai trouvé cette buglosse dans un talus entre les voies du tram et un petit bois qui longe le domaine royal de Laeken.
