[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On the first sunny days, the ladybird is back! Coccinella septempunctata, the seven-spot ladybird (or, in North America, seven-spotted ladybug or seven-spotted lady beetle), is the most common ladybird in Europe. Its elytra are of a red colour, but punctuated with three black spots each, with one further spot being spread over the junction of the two, making a total of seven spots, from which the species derives both its common and scientific names (from the Latin septem = "seven" and punctata = "spots").
We can meet the ladybird on early spring to late fall in the gardens, fields and woods. Ladybirds are very useful in the fight against pests such as aphids and some mealybugs they eat in large quantities.

Dès les premiers beaux jours, la coccinelle est de retour ! L'espèce la plus connue, la coccinelle à sept points, Coccinella septempunctata, est rouge et possède sept points noirs sur ses élytres. On rencontre la coccinelle dès le début du printemps jusqu'à la fin de l'automne dans les jardins, champs et bois. Les coccinelles sont très utiles dans la lutte contre les insectes nuisibles tels que les pucerons et certaines cochenilles qu'elles dévorent en grandes quantités.
