Salix caprea (Goat Willow, Pussy Willow or Great Sallow), is a common species of willow native to Europe and western and central Asia.

It is a deciduous shrub or small tree, reaching a height of 6-12 m, rarely to 20 m. The leaves are 3-12 cm long and from 2-8 cm wide, broader than most other willows. The flowers are soft silky, silvery 3-7 cm long catkins, produced in early spring before the new leaves appear; the male and female catkins are on different plants (dioecious). The catkins (‘pussies’), which appear in early spring before the leaves, are silvery (when unopened) on female trees (here) and golden on male trees.
You can find a photo of the male catkins here.

Hi catherine

what a wonderful spring like picture you have of the pussy willow. the colours are stunning and the use of light is excellent. I really like the extra OOF set of flowers in the background that duplicate the foreground ones.

Bonjour Catherine!

Markus

Hello Catherine, the backlight and dof has created an interesting light condition. The oof branch limb creates a good sense of depth in the bg. Composition looks well, tfs rgds Necip
