[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) has a tiny, plump, fluffy body, an extremely long tail and a combination of black, cream and pink plumage. This bird has been described, memorably, as resembling a 'flying teaspoon'! The creamy-white head has a black stripe over the eye. Juveniles have shorter tails, browner plumage with dark cheeks and very little pink colour in the feathers. The flight is weak, undulating and restless.
This is quite a vocal species and individuals in groups call constantly to each other, to keep in touch. The notes are hard to characterise in words - a sort of buzzing 'tseet-seet-seet' comes close - but quite easily remembered and, once learned, often provide the first sign that the bird is in the vicinity. PP: adjustments on the RAW original, cropping, one little blurred branch erase with clone tools, resizing, framing and sharpening.

About the shot...
I not so satisfied by the several shots I took under a tree visited by a group of long-tailed tits. The speed is too low and most of my photos were blurred. With ISO 200 or 400 and a higher speed, it would be beter, I think. But it is not easy to react quicky and make the good choise, with the camera handheld. I will try to do better next time!
--------------------------------------------------------

Hello Catherine,
There can't so prepare to shot as to macroshot. Nearly all birds are in motion. I think that yours is successful.
regards, Pawel

Hi Catherine,

I think the capture is not that bad as you presume,I know these small birds are always on the move and hard too capture,a pity a branch is obstructing a clear picture, but overall well worth the upload, tfs

Hello Catherine,

You have captured lovely details of the fluffy plummage and the extremely long tail of this long-tailed tit.
His markings are very different from the other tits.
I like your composition and the branch makes a natural frame.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Catherine,
Excellent capture of this cute very lively tit. This seems to be the same subspecies that resides in the UK. The Scandinavian subspecies has unmarked head. These are some lively that it takes lot of patience to freeze the motion. You have managed with good pose and well composed picture with sharp details and nicely blurred BG.

Hi Catherine,
Great lesn that Sigma 300mm! I think you have done well here, the DOF is good and under low light conditions the details are good too! I also very much like the setting amongst the branches!

Hello Catherine,
It is not easy to take a good shot of these very active birds, especially when the light is bad. This is not perfect but it is sharp in parts and you portay thia Long-tailed Tit in a fine pose and from a good POV against a fine contrasting BG that shows it up well.
TFS,
Regards, Ivan
