The Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) is a small dragonfly of the family Libellulidae native to Eurasia. It is one of the most common dragonflies in Europe, occurring in a wide variety of water bodies, though with a preference for breeding in still water such as ponds and lakes. Adults are on the wing from June until November.
The male is usually dull red and the female yellow, orange or brown. This small red Dragonfly is seen in a wide variety of habitats, including lakes, ponds, canals and slow-flowing rivers. (Wikipedia)
You can see a female here.
--------------------------------------------------------

Hello Catherine,

Whata good shot with this insect. You have made a very sharp image showing well the body of the insect as well as the dead leafs beneath. The light in your photo is very well chosen rendering fine and vivid color tones. There is sucha fine match between the colors of the insect and the background.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian
