The Upright Coral (Ramaria stricta). The fruit-bodies of this fungus consist of many upright off-white stalks, branching towards the tip, and growing together in tufts. Their favourite habitat at the moment is newly spread wood-chip mulch, where they can occur in large numbers for the first year, then diminishing numbers over successive years, as they use up the nutrients they require. Thus this is a common fungus in parks and gardens, which we see more often now than in pre-wood-chip days. Some Coral species are poisonous, so it is best to avoid eating any. (Source)

(Wikipedia)

Hi Catherine,
this fungus has an interesting texture going for it and the name it has is very appropriate as it really does look like coral. The photo has great colour and is a sharp, well focused image.I like how the photo has been cropped as well and also how you had the pov low to get right into the base of the plant. The conifer cone is good as it gives a reference as to the size of the fungus.TFS. Bob

Hi Catherine,
Beautiful shot, great compo, sharpness, focus etc. Very, very good photo, maybe a little more contrast should do, but I like the pic this way also. About the specie itself: by my opinion it can't be Ramaria stricta, because the named specie's growing - if I'm not wrong - on decaying hardwood or even on sawdust / mulch, but not in pine forest, while Your photo was shot closed to a Pinus nigra, look at the cones and the needles. Ramarias, most of all the yellow ones are sometimes impossible to identify without microscope.
Congrats for the great photo, best regards from Hungary, László
