longhorn beetle

In most beetle species the male and the female are almost identical. In a few cases however there are striking differences between the two, like in Stictoleptura rubra, a species common on flowers in gardens. The male is slender, brownish and has a black neck shield. It seldomly reaches a length of over 15 mm. The female is bigger and more plumb, reaching some 20 mm in length regularly. She is reddish, including het neck shield. Actually they do look like two separate species! The species is very rare in the UK, for the foodplants of its larvae are not indigenous in Britain. It is still often referred to by its former scientific name Leptura rubra.

Kirsten, a little bit over-exposed but still a good shot.
Great note. It is the same here: dark at 17 h.
Thanx

Hi Kirsten, I know how you feel with the nights getting dark so early, feels like one long night.

Excellent capture, maybe crop out some to the right and below but very well seen.

As for the ID I think this is more likely to be a Longhorn beetle (Cerambycidae) worth checking?

Good work and thanks for posting.

Hi Kirsten, nice shot of an interesting beetle. I do think Paul has the family spot on. The species migth be: Leptura rubra. Though over there I am not so sure.

Hello Kirsten! It's a good capture with good detail. As stated a bit over-exposed. Was this hand-held? I don't see your shutter-speed or F stop? Easier to judge what you've done if you can include it in the future..Good job!

Very nice capture Kirste. Good detail and nice colours. Well Done

This would have been a very good shot if it had a better focus on the bug, I think. I like the lighting and unusual composition. Well done.

I like this shot and would like to offer some use it or lose information on a technique the I use. Even in very bright sunlight I still use my fill ot diffused flash - as a matter of fact I hardly shoot without my flash. It helps to fill in the little shadows and bring out more detail.

Thanks again for posting this

A nice capture Kirsten.
Colours and composition are great,It looks like the light was strong but you've managed it very well.
Good work,well done.

Weleens gezien, ja, maar niet van zooo dichtbij, mooi dingetje!

For a young lady your taking some great shots. This one is a little over exposed as the others have said, but don't worry to much, its still a nice shot. Try to include camera and exposure details in the future. You can update these in the profiles section of your introduction page (Equipment profile).
Keep up the good work, Chris.
