The most colorful butterfly in Europe: finally, I have it!

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Lepidoptera
(unranked): Rhopalocera
Superfamily: Papilionoidea
Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Nymphalinae
Tribe: Nymphalini
Genus: Inachis
(Hübner, 1819)
Species: I. io
The butterfly has a wingspan of 50 to 55 mm. The base-colour of the wings is a rusty red, and at each wingtip it bears a distinctive, black, blue and yellow eye-spot.
The Peacock can be found in woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, and gardens, and from lowlands up to 8,200 feet (2,500 m) elevation. It is a relatively common butterfly seen in many European parks and gardens. (wikipedia)

Hello Oana,
A very special capture for you and an outstanding treat for us. The colors are magnificent, as is this details and composition. Splendid work Oana, thank you.
Rick

I am not sure of spelling but luminescence comes to mind..Borderline on 60's psychedelic! you have given a common butterfly a look at the aura...specifically I do believe in the notion of an aura...yet scientifically I reckon it could be better understood as a light form on the scale of waves...from which many things come...from light to dark...which is the beginning and which is the end? This is a fine picture..I would have suggested dedication to Elizabeth Prophet who died of Alzheimer's, but you more than likely do not know her. She has written much of the aura..
