Common Frog

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Common Frog (Rana temporaria) also known as the European Common Frog or European Common Brown Frog is found throughout much of Europe as far north as well north of the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia and as far east as the Urals, except for most of Iberia, southern Italy, and the southern Balkans. The furthest west it can be found is Ireland, where it is an introduced species.
Adult Common Frogs have a body length of between six and nine centimetres and their backs and flanks vary in colour, with olive green grey-brown, brown, olive-brown, grey or yellowish possible. However, Common Frogs are known to be able to lighten and darken their skin in order to match their surroundings.
Common Frogs' flanks, limbs and backs are covered with irregular dark blotches and they usually sport a chevron-shaped spot on the back of their neck. Their eyes are golden-brown with horizontal pupils.
Common frogs are active almost all of the year, only hibernating when it gets very cold and the water and earth are consistently frozen. Common frogs hibernate in running waters, muddy burrows and can hibernate in layers of decaying leaves and mud at the bottom of ponds. The fact that they can breathe through their skins allows them to stay underwater for much longer periods of time when they are hibernating.(Wikipedia)

(Wikipedia) |

wow what a close up! nice light, good sharpness and fantastic frame!
lovely and thx Catherine
Hi Catherine, my neighbor of today,
A superb frontal capture of probably a female specimen all puffed up in a defensive mode, trying to make itself look bigger than its actual size to possible predators. The natural environment finely demonstrates its camouflage capability. TFS this nice image my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Bonjour !

Hello Catherine!
Looks like fat and very happy frog to me :-) Very nice, golden colours and good POV.
I like how you captured the golden skin of this frog, I wonder whether this frog is ugly or beautiful... but maybe it is just what it is. The design of focus and composition is good. It gets clear that the common frog is well adapted to the bed of autumn leaves that is its habitat. Mike
