Laetiporus sulphureus
Family : Polyporaceae

Often called the "chicken of the woods," Laetiporus sulphurous is easily recognized by its colors, soft texture, and absence of gills. It is 5-60 cm broad, up to 4 cm thick; fan-shaped to obtusely semicircular; smooth to gently wrinkled; suedelike; bright yellow to bright orange when young, frequently fading in maturity and with direct sunlight.
Parasitic and saprobic; growing alone or, more typically, in large clusters on decaying logs and stumps of hardwoods and conifers; summer and fall, rarely in winter and spring. The mushrooms do not appear until well after the fungus has attacked the tree; by the time the chickens appear, they are definitely coming home to roost, as far as the tree's health is concerned. (More info: Mushroomexpert)
The mushroom can be prepared in most ways that one can prepare chicken meat. It can also be used as a substitute for chicken in a vegetarian diet. However, a small percentage of people can have an allergic reaction when ingesting it. (Wikipedia)

Hello Catherine,
This fungi appear in my countryside and I've also posted photo this species but didn't know its ID. Very interesting note. Your photo is very good , saturated colours, good sharpness.
Regards, Pawel

Bonjour Catherine,
Beautiful shot of beautiful specimens. Great compo, nice warm color tones and well chosen POV. Congrats and tfs.
It's edible when young, I tried it - we in Hungary used to eat it as "mushroom meat ball".
Best regards from Hungary, László

Hello Catherine,
Nice capture. Beautiful oker color that puts some light in the dark forest...
I was puzzled by your comment, but the caption explains it well. I would have never guessed that there are mushrooms that taste like chicken :) It also fits nicely on a hamburger bread ...
Kind Regards, Mike

Hello Catherine,
Wonderful photo taken from a perfect POV. The light on the mushroom against the dark surroundings works very well here. Very beautiful! Excellent sharpness, details and OOF BG. Also a superb composition.
Regards,
Peter

Bonsoir Catherine.

A bientôt.

Philippe.
