This year, I saw many Common Clouded Yellow in Belgium. Maybe the good and sunny weather we had is the reason. I suppose it was a good year for this migratory species. But this is the first decent shot I took, because most of the butterflies I saw never rest and were flying very fast.

Colias croceus (Geoffroy, 1785)
Family: Pieridae

The Common Clouded Yellow is a small butterfly. The upperside is golden to orange yellow with a broad black margin on all four wings and a black spot near the center forewing. The underside lacks the black borders and is lighter, with a more greenish tint, particularly on the forewings.
In flight, it is easily identifiable by the intense yellow colouring, much brighter than that of the lemon-yellow male Common Brimstone which also lacks black color. Like all Colias species they never open their wings at rest.
The Common Clouded Yellow's breeding range is North Africa and southern Europe and eastwards through Turkey into the Middle East but it occurs throughout much of Europe as a summer migrant, in good years individuals reaching Scandinavia.

Hi Catherine. I think it been a good year for butterflies i seem to have missed so many this year. You have finaly been able to get one to land and stay still for you. You have taken a fine close up with good detail and bright colours. I like the red in the leaf matches the red around the out side of the Common Clouded Yellow . Wel done TFs.
