Indian Summer and Aster shrub attract a lot of Painted Ladies. We spent a time together this afternoon...

The Painted Lady is a colourful butterfly well known throughout most of the world. It is a large butterfly identified by the black and white corners of its mainly deep orange, black-spotted wings. It has 5 white spots in the black forewing tips and while the orange areas may be pale here and there, there are no clean white dots in them. The hindwings carry 4 small submarginal eyespots on dorsal and ventral sides. Those on the dorsal side are black, but in the summer morph sometimes small blue pupils are present in some. (Wikipedia)
It is a regular migrant in Belgium.

Hi Catherine. This is a head on close up of the Painted Lady . You have sharp focusing and fine detail as it drinks the nector. Bright but natural colours. wel ldone TFS.

My first reaction was: WOW! :> This is a great photo! And here are some reasons why I think like that:
1. composition - eye contact with butterfly + perfectly added frame

2. colouration - vivid, natural, well saturated

3. sharpness - just like I like to watch :)

4. DOF - flower and insect's head with very nice details, BG delicate and blurred

Nothing more to add :)

D'abord, un grand merci pour ton gentil commentaire sur ma marmotte ! Ensuite, je tiens à te dire que cette photo est tout simplement sublime ! J'adore les couleurs gaies et joyeuses, l'insecte qui nous regard droit dans les yeux, la composition, les détails incroyables, et cette longue "langue" qui s'enfonce dans la fleur pour en boire le nectar... Cette photo est un vrai bijou, je ne me lasse pas de la regarder. Félicitations !
