Problem
Today, a very simple female mallard–Anas platyrhynchos. After a short search on TN with the name “mallard” resulted that are almost 900 pictures with this species. From which, some of them are exceptional. On Google there are almost 776000 pages for Anas platyrhyncos and almost 7 million for simple “mallard”. Pictures: 1120000 for mallard and682000if you search with the scientific name. I don’t search in how many languages! I think in all.
So, at this amazing volume of information’s and pictures, I will add another imagine. But I consider that this is a little bit special. Why? Because is presenting a female mallard and her eggs in a small city like Bouillon, Belgium.
And now, the problem: the female considered to make her nest on special flower-pot, mounted on the edge of a bridge. The height of the bridge: between the first or second floor of a building. I don’t have any doubts that the mother is not capable to fly, but I am wandering, how the little ducklings will reach the water?? They will survive? They will not be an easy prey for cats or for...some birds?
This example is one of the adaptability of this species in each type of environment!
I hope that you will like this.

Hello Oana,
This is really an amazing story. Like you ,I wonder what will happen to the eggs or the ducklings? May be someone will remove them.
Very interesting document to show the animal-adaptability to urban life.
The shot is well taken and somehow funny. The female mallard seems to ask herself the same questions than you .
Thanks and take care
Anne

Numai bine,

Hi Oana,
I would say that a jump will probably be no issue. Small animals land slowly and don't hurt themselves.
(A common mistake is to think that all objects fall at the same speed. The air slows down falling objects. The smaller they are the largest the effect. Think of droplets of water in the fog that even remain suspended).
It is unusual to see mallards nesting that high. Very interesting shot.

Buna Oana
Foarte tare poza asta, imi place, unde si-a gasit sa-si faca cuib :)).

Oana, very unique capture. I like the face that the mallard is looking out over the water. It is almost as though she is wondering the same thing as you... "I hope my babies will be able to fly, or at least float!" I imagine they will be fine, since they are water fowl...

See my workshop for added vibrance and a small crop.

Until next time,
Michael

Hello Oana,
Very original shot of this female mallard on a "balcony" over the river. I'm not worry about the little ducks. I think it is a good place for them because they are able to swim whem they come out the eggs. Best regards,
Catherine

A very intriguing situation this one has itself in...Here in the states...NYC I believe some raptors camped out on a building and it was all the rage in downtown Manhattan..Very nice...and good angle for this one!

hi, Oana
thanks for commenting on my post! I like this picture because you have a great view of the eggs and the duck. The 'problem' is, that you can't see the ducks tail feathers.
