[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had already a photo of a female Orthetrum cancellatum taken in my garden and I knew the place in Molsbroek where they always fly around, so I went over there.
Difficult? No, not at all, you simply look out for one, follow his flight, watching till he sits down.
Then you make it yourself very easy, lie down with your camera, focus on the spot where he was sitting and wait ... very soon he comes back on the same spot again and again and you simply have to click till you got him as you want. Sudden noise chase him away but no worry , he comes back to finish a full photo session shaking his head like he was saying ' Come on man, I haven't got all day for you, still have to play around with my mates and chasing females'.

So here my male version of this dragon-fly.

Mooie eerste dragonfly Henk,
Goede compositie, goede kleuren, leuk verhaal erbij, goed gedaan

Great detail and sharpness in the centre of the body there. Good neutral background. Well captured

Henk, Nice shot with very good sharpness of the body. Unfortunately there is only limited DOF for the wings and back of the body. I had that same problem in the beginning until I got a tip from Bente saying that I should shoot at 1/200, F13 and with flash. That improved DOF for me a a lot. In many cases there is some under exposure but if you take raw data that can easily be corrected.

Very nice Jacobs, thanks for posting the other image too, makes a nice set. Good picture - you may want to increase the Fstop to get a greater DOF. Well done.

Very nice capture Henk. Focus is just where it should be, colours are great and the composition is perfect. The front shot and the female are very good pictures too.

Note describes the foot work very well - just the same for me, wet and dirty all over when I am back home ;-).

Good capture Jacobs, very nicley framed and the detail of the wing area is crisp. its down side is the DOF as has already been said. My six penny worth is that I find the use of as high an F stop as your lowest hand held will stand, and it seems with digital its a lot slower than with film cameras. aqlso centre wieghted or single spot works better too for macro work, you also have the advantage of being able to pick your focus point as well if I rember right.
