I think this is a female Mallard or some kind of hybrid. Maybe the sunlight and the color saturation made me use the word hybrid.
Another one in my Mallard series captured in the wild.
I'm a bit puzzled about the yellow reflections; 30 meters or so further away there was a floating structure with little boats, if I remember well. Maybe one of the boats was yellow...
Or maybe it is just the water; notice that yellow and blue are complementary colors; so that's why IMO the latter is quite unlikely. I don't know though....

Something personal...
Until 2008 I'll be less active on this site especially in October and November. I wish it could be the other way around...

Hi Annick,
I think it is a Drake Mallard in a transitional period of moulting. There is a name for it but memory fails me at present.
Good shot of it bathing and the water of the ducks back finishes it well.

... I like what this camera can do Annick... Mallard is a common subject indeed but this one is different... A big "clap, clap" (like you say) for Mark, the big Mama and the photographer :) I love the clarity of those water drops on her back.
