Dock Bug
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Dock Bug (Coreus marginatus) is a large and mottled reddish-brown squashbug (family Coreidae) with a broad, oval abdomen. The two small projections between the antennae are diagnostic.
There is one generation per year, adults mating and laying eggs in spring/early summer. The larvae feed on dock and other related plants in the Polygonaceae; new adults may be found from August onwards. This species often forms noticeable congregations both before and after hibernation.
A common and widepread species in southern Britain, including Ireland, where it may be found in many dry and damp habitats with dense vegetation.
Adult: All year
Length 13-15 mm (British Bugs)

Hi Catherine,
Very good image and useful notes. They are not in a comfortable position and you can see some tension. May be you could have gone for a top angle as there is no problem with the BG. The details on the bug (foreground) is very great.
TFS.
