Did you know !!
Damselflies and dragonflies were flying 300 million years ago!
Today there are approximately 5,300 known species in the world.
Their front and back wings move separately so they can stop and change direction in mid air as well as flying at speeds of up to 30 miles an hour.
They have huge eyes; each made up of thousands of tiny eyes packed together. They are capable of detecting movement up to 15m away.
They are very successful hunters with bristly front legs to catch their victims and large mouth parts to crunch them up. The insect order they belong to is known as Odonata which means 'toothed jaw'.

A nice shot Leon.
Very good composition and nice detail,the wings especially.
Nothing like this ever lands on our washing line :-(
I think it may be a Common Darter but I'll have to look it up and check.

Great shot Leon, excellent detail and DoF. Well done.

Deffinatley loks like a female common darter (sympetrum striolatum)
Her details are good just a shame you washing line is so white it burnt out completley, time for a change of colour I think.

A nice catch of this dragon. I think the line & BG comment stands. But if you do not try, you will not succeed. In terms of photographic composition rules, the line thru' the wings marks this picture down.

This is a different view that what we normally see, which is a good thing since we can see the mouth now that fits in with your note (it looks like he is smiling for you). We can also clearly see where there are two attachments on the side for the wing set.

Leon, this is an amazing shot. The angle, from underneath the insect, is great. I like the detail of the wings, and the sky shining through. Also the "face" looks awesome. A pity that the washing line is white; had it been in different colours, you could exactly see the DoF. TFS.

Deze was ik eigenlijk vergeten Leon, het zou spijtig zijn deze geen punten te geven, want hij is buitengewoon mooi, schitterend werk!

Bird on a wire. The details of the wings shows very nicely against the sky. The detail i svery sharp and the wire add a uniqueness to the take. Well done.

Nice shot Leon, an intersting perspective. I am pleased to see that the camera I have takes this type of shot. The wing detail is very good.
