Ligia italica - sea slater
Family: Ligiidae
Order: Isopoda
Class: Malacostraca
Subphyllum: Crustacea
Phyllum: Arthropoda

This is a common terrestrial isopod (related to woodlice) that inhabits the shore of the Black and Mediterranean Sea. It lives among rocks and stones, sometimes in large groups. It is a cleaner, it scavenges and eats all the dead matter that is brought by the sea.

In western Europe, a similar but larger and less colourful species Ligia oceanica, may be found.

Nice POV and composition Michal. It looks very shy with its big eyes :-) Looks similiar to Asellus acuaticus from my aquarium. Nice photo, interesting subject but note is too short for me :-)

Marvellous ! What a cute little fellow, I never thought isopods could be that beauties. Excellent POV, sharpness with nicely coloured details on subject. It'a pitty the small sized version doesn't look that flashy, in large size it is a masterpiece. Patrick
