Melitaea cinxia (Linnaeus 1758)
It's a very common butterfly in Istria (Croatia) that belong to the Nymphalidae family. The animal spends most of its life as a black, spiny caterpillar while the adult lives only a few weeks. They have one generation per year, in warmer region two. She feeds on nectar from flowering plants. The larvae feed on several species of plants in the genera of Plantago, Veronica and Centaurea. They live in gregarious family groups in characteristic silken webs throughout most of their larval stage. Through winter larvae lie dormant until spring. The pupa lies in the ground on grass or other plant-stems for 2-3 weeks.

A very very nice macro, Ingrid. I wish the leaf was not there in the front, though it is blurred giving a nice touch... But the details around the eyes are lovely, focus is just perfect and the hair on its body are so clear.
Thanks for sharing!
