[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The female is very characteristic by the shape of its abdomen and its drawings. It measures 18 to 22 mm. The lower part shows a yellow checkerwork and black which merges with the ground of the scrubland where it saw: the spider is held indeed with the reverse of its slightly tilted fabric. The shape of the festoons and the length of the final point are variable.

The male (6 to 8 mm) resembles on the other hand that of Argiope bruennichi: the abdomen does not have festoons. A yellow band with ramifications backwards is reproduced on its sternum. The immature young people of the two species are not differentiable. The males are adult as of June

Argiope lobata often cohabits with A. bruennichi. The yellow silk fabric, very resistant, is suspended between two sometimes isolated bushes moreover d'1,50 Mr. the spider daily remakes it about midnight. It comprises stabilimentums and often more than 40 rays. It takes him three hours to weave it.
