Lady Slippers is a term used to describe the orchids in the subfamily Cypripedioidea, which includes the genera Cypripedium, Mexipedium, Paphiopedilum, Phragmipedium and Selenipedium, distinguished by their slipper-shaped pouches (modified labellums), which function by trapping insects so that they are forced to climb up past the staminode, behind which they collect or deposit pollinia.

The lady's slipper is known in the United States of America as the moccasin flower, from its resemblance to a shoe or moccasin.

This plant is the biggest orchid found in Czech Republic. Hope you enjoy it. Petr

Nice macro, good details. However green back ground masked a bit green plant stem. A contrast colored BG would be nice.

Just did a search for Cypripedium photos and found this one from a year ago, but thought I'd comment anyway.

Your photo is superb. The composition is wonderful with the subjects perfectly exposed and very sharp with an exquisite out-of-focus background. One of the best photos I've seen here, it goes into my favorites!
