Large tortoiseshell (Nymphalis polychloros)
Nymphalidae
Flight Time: March/June, June/July (hibernates)
Size: 50-63mm
Foodplants: Elm, Poplar or Willow
Rather rare butterfly in my country, I found it twice only, now after 8 years. It had break wings, nevertheless I was pleased by the meet :-) |

Hi Jan,
Nice to be in company with the Large Tortoiseshell! This species is also rather rare in Sweden, occasionally seen only in the southern parts of the country, where it has been expanding lately however. Nice composition with excellent colours and sharpness, showing how its enemies have been snapping at it. TFS and best regards,
Goran

Hi Jan,
a very nice capture of this species. I've only seen this species in very nice enivironments, so bear good memories in mind. Well captured!

Hello Jan,
Fine capture of the Large Tortoiseshell, a very rare species in Sweden. This somewhat worn specimen is sharply presented with good colouring and well composed.
TFS,
Regards, Ivan

Hi Jan.
You butterfly picture is really perfect. I like excellent diagonal composition of the shot, wonderful, rich and natural colours, crisp sharpness of the butterfly image and very nice scenery created by impressive dry leaves. Superb job. My compliment and TFS.
Alexei.
Another of those butterfly species I have not yet seen myself. Excellent capture - impressive depth of field.
