Sphaerobolus stellatus
Common name(s): Cannon fungus; Sphere thrower;
Artillery fungus; Shotgun fungus.
Phylum: Basidiomycota
Order: Phallales
Family: Geastraceae
Occurrence on wood substrate: Saprobic; solitary or
grouped on decaying wood (e.g. landscape bark mulch),
sawdust, herbaceous debris, or dung; spring through fall.
Dimensions: The fruit bodies are 1-3 mm wide.
Sterile nest surfaces: Yellow-orange, becoming whitish.
The nest opens by splitting into 4-9 starlike rays.
Fertile inner tissue: Single peridiole ("egg") about 1 mm in diameter; dull yellow.

This is Very well exposed, with excellent sharpness, detail, DOF and colors. Well composed, nice POV. Very well done!

Unusual looking fungi, but I like the POV.

Ahoj Honzo.
Velmi pěkná kompozice s velmi zajímavou houbou.Moc pěkné barvy a světlo-odraz v tekutině uvnitř je pěkný.Také pěkné detaily.
Líbí se mi to,nikdy jsem takovou houbu neviděl.

I've never seen such fungus! Fantastic :-) Really strange shape, looks like cannon for sure. Also I like orange colour very much. Composition, light and BG are great. Great photo!

I admit you surprised me very much with this one. I think there is not this specie here, as I have never seen it nor in local nor in national books, in fact is the fist time as far as I remember, and it is very beautiful. I can read it is really small, you captured skilfully bringing an excellent picture to us. Thanks!
